Air leakage in a home can be a significant contributor to high heating and cooling costs, along with causing comfort issues. Many air sealing activities are inexpensive and can be taken on by a homeowner, however, identifying and quantifying the sources of air leakage can be a challenge. Many sources of leakage in a home are places where air leaks out and are not associated as being “drafty” spots, when in fact they are equally important to seal – air can’t leak in unless it also leaks out! The use of a blower door system along with a thermal imaging camera brings two high-tech tools together and results in the ability to quickly identify sources of leakage.
